Customer Reviews & Testimonials

Jenna Koopman

We hosted our wedding here in June of 2024. It was such a fantastic experience working with the community center as our venue - shoutout to Matt, Caitlyn, and Greg - who all helped make our complicated vision for a ceremony for 100 and a room flip full dinner reception come true! And it was affordable to boot, which is hard to come by in the Bay. We booked the center for 3 hours Friday night before for a combination of decorating and the rehearsal / rehearsal dinner and then 10 hours the Saturday our wedding happened. It was perfect and worked out so well with a 4-10 ceremony and reception. Attaching some pictures so you can see how the space can come together. We used the Community Center's furniture, including a bar they have onsite. Our wedding coordinator was pleasantly surprised by the space - she said it's one of the nicest community centers to use as a wedding space in the Bay Area and we're inclined to agree!

Disclaimer: This review reflects my experience with Mike, a volunteer at the 601 Chestnut location in San Carlos, and does not reflect on the organization as a whole. My 80-year-old mother and I visited the Chestnut location food bank in San Carlos. Upon entering, I noticed there was no one in the area where the pre-packed groceries were. I walked around the first floor and found Mike along with two women near the exit. I asked if they could help me locate the food bank, and one of the women responded, "This is where it is; what do you need?" I said I was there to pick up some food. That's when all three of them began asking rude and unnecessary questions about whether we were authorized to receive food. I explained that I wasn't sure, but we had registered on the website. We all started walking toward the food bank room, and my mother and I waited inside. Then Mike began yelling, saying, "You're not supposed to be in here! There's personal information inside." I apologized, but all three of them continued to act as though we were a nuisance, repeatedly stating, "Your name is not on the list." I apologized again and told the woman it was probably my fault. She responded dismissively, "Yeah, yeah, this is a name-by-name basis, and you can't just walk in here asking for food." At that point, I decided to walk away. I later confronted Mike, but he seemed completely unaware of his actions. After I expressed my complaint and turned to leave, Mike sarcastically shouted, "WELL, YOU HAVE A GOOD DAY!" People come to food banks for help, and my mother, especially, does not deserve to be treated in that manner. I hope that the volunteers at this location will reflect on how they treat others, as it's important not to kick people when they are down.

Always open, this is a haven for our older adult community. It's a place to go, meet other locals, and relax. The remodel is spectacular including a great room where they serve a meal five times a week. We take an evening yoga class there.

Modern two story building with parking underneath the San Carlos Public Library. Several multi purpose rooms for meetings and various activities. Aerobics and small fitness rooms. Large lobby area for public events like the Senior Care Resource Fair. There's a fireplace there too. Staff has offices upstairs. I believe they have a lunch and movie programs for seniors. Nice outdoor plaza with umbrellas on tables.

Very clean, I have only been there a few times but the toddler I was with had some make-up music classes and so I believe that it's mostly a Senior Center, which makes me happy, because I know that you can make an elderly persons day just by them seeing lots of children!!!
