The Retreat at State College

Awful place to live at that looks nice before you actually live there. Front office will find your package a week after it comes and maintenance would rather you figure out your own problems rather than fix them even when you put emergency priority on it. Their water heaters don't let you take a shower for more than ten minutes with hot water, and I could go on all day about why I will never pay for this place again. There's a reason they have to go around begging people to renew, and the retreat is only good if you have pets and enjoy an hour walk to campus.

The Retreat is the absolute best place to live in State College. Being a dog owner, it was a no brainer to live here with the property being so pet-friendly. Every interaction I have had with the CA's, management or maintenance has been genuinely awesome and their quickness to help with any issue you have is beyond comforting and amazing. Overall, The Retreat is a great place to live!

The facilities and the houses are nice. However, The mangers always come to our house and harass us to get more money from us somehow. They come to our house during the time of the lease and claim that it isn't clean and that they will force clean it and we will have to pay for it ( this is during the time that we still live in the house!). We tell them that all the people who live in the house are happy about the level of cleanliness but this doesn't matter to them. I don't know why does it matter to them how we organize our house! When we ask them how clean does it have to be, they say it has to look exactly like the model all year for them to not charge us! However, we did exactly what they asked. We spent hours to clean the house and tried to make it spotless. I have photos of the house after we cleaned attached. They said it is still dirty because there is some dust on the fan that we can't even reach and that the the tabs are rusty... stuff like that. So those who plan on living at the retreat, if you can't make your house cleaner than the photos all year you shouldn't live in the retreat.

Its quite a shame on their parking permit policies...Atleast hire a towing company that is reputed and have professionalism who know how to treat their customers with respect. I got $25 ticket for parking to unload the stuff while the entire parking lot was empty so it was not like I was taking up the spots, this is post thanksgiving night (Sunday at 9:30 pm) when there were hardly any students and the parking lot was nearly empty with handful vehicles parked in the area and I was in the vicinity for less than 30 minutes....Shame on TheRetreat corporate parking policy and shame on the towing company they hired.

Came up to spend the night with my son and go to the Ohio State game. Looked for an open visitors spot only to see they were full. The was a completely empty row by the mailboxes and thought nothing of leaving it there away from all the other parking. Big mistake. Let me give you an idea to make parents want to continue to spend thousands every semester on townhouses that look like children built them. Put in more visitor parking. I come up here very often and never have I seen the parking lot full. Regardless of the time of day. And yes, I know I he parking is marked that you could be towed. I just didn't expect it to be enforced on a big weekend. Absolutely obnoxious. $275 for the tow and $25 for a parking ticket.

I have lived at The Retreat for the past 3 years and it has been a great experience. Their team is always willing to help with any inquiries or issues you may have. From my experience, their amenities and staff are unlike any in the area. It is a great community, super clean and spacious. There is no doubt that The Retreat at State College is the best place to live as a student at PSU.

FIX YOUR WIFI IT IS AWFUL. It's either down for 8 hours at a time, or it's so bad you could never stream or play games on it. This week has been awful, I've had working WiFi for 20% of it.

DO NOT LIVE HERE. Expect to have your car towed (for $295) after it sitting in the parking lot for 5 hours after it didn't have a parking pass because the office was closed that day. None of the washing machines here function properly. They all have worn out suspension and shake like crazy. Even worse in my case our washing machine broke from this and poured water all through our ceiling. Which they have so far refused to fix and won't even reply to my emails when I tell them I'm not paying for that repair. My neighbors constantly fight and we've had to call the cops three separate times. I know it's not the retreats fault but after three times they should do something about it. Today was the final straw, I got a note warning me that our recycling had to be bagged for garbage collection (no expiation) and if we didn't comply we would be given a fine. I told the office and they just said recycle it in the back where the dumpsters are.
