Gold Dredge 8

Informative and unique experience. An open train ride to the gold dredge 8 itself. Followed by gold panning. Rain or shine. There are plenty of employees to help you out. There is plenty of time. The gift shop was HUGE and unexpected. Reasonable prices. You can have a necklace made from the gold you find if you want. Every person is gauranteed to find some gold as part of the excursion. I would hit this hidden gift shop itself on every visit to the area.

Fun experience, really appreciated how informative it was on oil and gold. The presentation had good audio with video for a great understanding. Gold panning was more challenging than expected! Definitely check out the mammoth fossils in the gift shop.

We had an amazing time here. The staff was very polite, the tour extremely informative, and the grounds well maintained. We started with a quick history of the pipeline that runs through the property, then boarded a train to the dredge where we were given a history of gold mining in Alaska. Once at the dredge, we panned for gold, and actually found some, then toured the dredge and enjoyed some complimentary coffee and cookies before boarding the train for the return trip. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience!

Dexter was a great host along with other staff. You see the past of gold mining and how hard it was on the early miners. You appreciate the warm coffee and hot chocolate along with the cookies after a chilly ride in the train learning about Alaska and it's history. Panning for gold is fun and we found almost $20 buck in gold. The pipeline is amazing on how it was built and maintained. I would recommend this adventure for young and seasoned alike.

Been to that area a few times, but this was the first time we did the Dredge and loved it!!! So worth it for the history and just phone. The hot chocolate was very good too, not to mention the cookies!!!!

Excellent, interesting, and educational experience. And fun! Learn all about the Trans Alaska Pipeline, the history of the gold rush and ongoing gold mining, and get to pan for your own gold. Any gold flakes you find you can keep! The famous Dredge 8 is onsite and you can walk through it. We loved this experience- highly recommended!

Great place to learn about the Trans Alaska Pipeline and gold dredging! Hands on panning, guaranteed to yield some gold. My wife and I panning paid out 5.8 Grains, worth about $28. Had the gold placed into a souvenir locket/magnet.

We really enjoyed the Dredge tour. It was very informative and fun. Learning more about the Alaskan (Alyeska) Pipeline was an added bonus. We got about $21 worth of gold from our panning. We got free cookies, hot chocolate and coffee which was a delicious addition to the trip. The gift store was huge with the prices on hats and souvenirs in my travels so far in Alaska. Walking on and in the old dredge was great. Being a mechanical engineer, I really appreciated what went into the design and build of that huge machine. I recommend the whole thing for great family fun and learning. Most kids I saw also greatly enjoyed the train ride.
