I started an online theatre ticketing website on Winhost back in 2015, and maintained my services there until early 2020 when I shuttered my business due to the pandemic. I would have left Winhost two years sooner, but given the complexity of the service that I had established with Winhost, moving to another provider was not feasible for my company. I initially chose Winhost because they were one of the few hosting services available that provided .NET hosting with Microsoft SQL Server support, which my particular business solution required. I was able to get my services up and running with Winhost fairly easily, and had no issues integrating Visual Studio to publish my website and database updates to their servers. Over the course of 5 years, I paid on average $12 / month, which is slightly more expensive than comparative hosting providers -- I was subscribed to their "Max" mid-tier payment plan, which was the minimum tier that provided SSL support. During those 5 years, outages were frequent (about once a week) and typically ranged between 15 minutes and 3 hours (on one unfortunate occasion, it was down for 12 hours), which I monitored through an independent uptime tracker -- bear in mind that these were _not_ scheduled downtimes for maintenance, but rather were random, systemic problems within Winhost's network. Winhost's services were particularly poor in the evening (mountain standard time) when my theatre ticketing service was at its greatest use. As a result, there were numerous occasions when my service was unavailable to the public, which negatively impacted my income as well as my relations with the theatres and their patrons that relied upon my website to purchase tickets. When Winhost's services were down, staff members were typically slow to notify customers of an outage. It's worth noting that Winhost does not provide ANY customer support hotline to call and speak with a human representative, nor is there any live customer support chat service. Instead, all customer inquiries are directed to their forums. I did use the forums on occasion, where responses from staff typically took 2 to 3 days, but this meant that there would be no chance of resolving any of my emergencies day-of, so I learned to not rely on them. The Control Panel to administer your website is sufficient, and that's a compliment. In hindsight, I would have preferred to go with a fully featured cloud computing service like AWS or Azure to host my business, both of which provide professional, quality services and support for about the same monthly cost. Winhost makes an okay first impression, but over time shows it's flaws and leaves much to be desired.
