Customer Reviews & Testimonials

Alex Smith

My experience at the Annex this past year was less than ideal, to say politely. My car was towed after the first week, with no warning from the Annex (despite being told several times an email was sent, it was only sent after the fact). Come September, I ended up going nearly two months without hot water, the first maintenance guy left it saying it may not happen again (it did) and then had a maintenance request sit for three weeks until someone finally came and got it fixed. Then there were cracks forming in the ceiling from what seemed to be water damage, I make a request and the manager comes to look the same evening. She mentioned that she'll get someone in to fix it and no one ever did (I will be incredibly upset if this gets removed from my deposit). From there the lack of upkeep in and outside the building was incredibly disappointing for paying nearly $1000 a month to be there. Hallways are stained by trash and stairwells reek of dog urine, did for the entire year. Grass growing incredibly tall and walkways being overgrown to where the sidewalk was barely visible. Yards haven't been mowed in MONTHS and only were once the lease was ending so the new group of students can be fooled into the same experience I had. I cannot in good faith recommend this complex at the prices it rents for, for how poorly the property is treated.

I would not recommend The Annex of Terre Haute. My experience there was very disappointing. The hallways were often dirty, and the management was unhelpful and disorganized. The only positive part of my time there was the maintenance guy, who was the only one who actually helped. On top of that, I paid a deposit when I moved in, but when I moved out, they claimed I didn't pay one and asked for it again. This shows poor management and lack of organization. Overall, I would suggest looking elsewhere if you're considering living here.

Things didn't always go right at my time at Annex. Furnishings are cheap, far from "luxury." The common areas are often unkept and they allow the same trash to sit in the hallways for months. Things broke but we're usually fixed fairly promptly. My car was almost towed while unloading hefty groceries (in front for about a half hour). I paid the truck $100 to take it off the rack when i came back out to move it. The person i had taken the lease over from had to forfeit their deposit and pay an additional months rent even though i had paid my own deposit and rent for the same time period. However, the managers that live and work there are friendly and empathetic and must be trying their hardest to make it a desirable place to live. The monthly gatherings are a nice touch even though they aren't very well attended. As long as I get my deposit back as stated in an email I'll leave the 4 star up because I know the people on the ground at annex are tied by their bosses/owners for much of this and they aren't able to get around the corporate BS that make living here a bit difficult. Just be mindful that for the price, there are better options in Terre Haute.

It's funny to me that my electric bill can be 60$ last month and 57$ then next month but you've been gone the WHOLE December and was only here for January half the month and I BARELY use my lights this doesn't makes sense then they wanna charge you all these fees but don't tell you what they're for... and I find it REAL CRAZY that this so called "manager" of this establishment is NEVER around so I can NEVER see why I'm being charged all this crazy stuff. Went there on Friday 3 times to see if I can talk to her but guess what.. she was never there outta the 3 times even had a sign that said she'll be back at 1pm but when I went down there it was 2pm... lol so I'm confused. Although my experience with this place has been horrible, I can say the least that Ms. Minifield has made my experience here better she is the ONLY one who actually cares. She goes above and beyond her pay grade and I feel as if she should be promoted because she's is the only who actually cares about people in this facility and makes sure that everything is well with you with a smile every time, she is only who truly loves her job and make sure while your here that she's always there to help even if she can't, she'll try her best to help you. And that is someone who should be managing this place while it's going into shambles because she'll actually make this place a lil bit better.

If I could assign zero stars to the Annex, I would do so without hesitation. My initial decision to choose the Annex was solely based on its proximity to campus, offering the convenience of walking without needing a car. However, this proved to be the sole positive aspect of residing there. Pros: Proximity to campus, allowing for convenient walks. Cons: Filthy Living Conditions: The state of the Annex was nothing short of appalling. Filthy carpets stained with vomit and dog feces, trash strewn everywhere, and backed-up trash chutes lining the hallways. The persistent smell of marijuana in the hallways added to the overall lack of cleanliness. Poor Construction Quality: The Annex was built INCREDIBLY cheap and provided no respite from noise. Every footstep from upstairs neighbors echoed through the ceiling, and shared walls carried every conversation. Complaints about loud neighbors blasting music was apparently irrelevant to staff. Ineffective Management: The ever-changing management--changing 6 to 8 times during my stay--spoke volumes about the instability of the staff. Managers rarely responded to emails, displayed apathy toward resident concerns, and were consistently rude. The fitness room boasted broken machines, and residents faced difficulty accessing the package room due to uncooperative staff. Several of my packages were also stolen. Incompetent Staff: Staff members were perpetually absent, leaving the office early and showing little interest in addressing residents' questions or concerns. The complex doors remained broken for months, even in winter, forcing residents to take a long detour. Fully furnished apartments featured cheap, uncomfortable furniture that frequently broke. Delayed Security Deposit Return: My security deposit ordeal encapsulated the Annex's overall incompetence. It took nearly 6 months, countless calls, and the intervention of multiple managers to receive my deposit. The lack of professionalism was evident when a manager laughed off my request for an update on my security deposit nearly 6 MONTHS after I had moved out. Warning to Potential Residents: If you're considering living at the Annex, please heed this warning along with the numerous 1-star reviews. I have dissuaded many from choosing this place, and I'll continue to do so. The Annex is nothing short of a scam, and I'm genuinely baffled at how it manages to stay operational. I hope my experience serves as a cautionary tale for anyone contemplating a stay at the Annex.

Pros: it's close to campus Cons: Its dirty constantly, management is rude and doesn't seem to know what they're doing, their payment system is bad and will charge you a $25 fee when it messes up. They don't seem to be in the office most of the day and take very long lunch breaks. They'll tow cars 15 minutes past the allotted time but will leave cars sitting for 2 semesters in two of the closest parking spots. I don't recommend living here to anyone at all unless A LOT changes.

Hello. I was waiting until my parents came all the way from California to help me deal with this situation but it needs to be addressed. My wallet went missing a couple of months ago. It had my government ID as well as my credit card. I thought I had lost it- I was actually sure that I'd lost it because my card has fraud, I had to get an entire new credit card. I had traveled back home to California in May, and almost missed my flight because my GOVERNMENT ID was missing so I had to go through extensive security. A couple months passed and about a month ago in August, I get a call from DJ who works at the front office. He tells me that they found my wallet during spring cleaning- mind you, it is not spring time. I say okay. Then, the next day I saw Cece at the front desk, she stops me and asks if I got my wallet. She proceeds to laugh while telling me that she found it MONTHS ago but said that she would not give it back to me until I was on the lease. For background, I wasn't on the lease because I didn't have a guarantor and so I was just staying with my friend at the time. Then she says, "Yeah I meant to give it back to a while ago but I forgot to, haha." Mind you, this wallet, had all of my belongings in it, as stated before, my CREDIT CARD AND MY GOVERNMENT is. And she was withholding it from my purposely. I was behind about three months on rent because I couldn't get a money order without my ID, she knew all of this and still tried to evict me KNOWING that she had my belongings in her posession. During this time when I couldn't pay my rent because of my MISSING WALLET THAT SHE WAS WITHOLDING, she would publicly humiliate me in front of other annex residents by asking in front of people if I had my rent, or that I was being evicted- this was multiple times and multiple propensity witnessed this unprofessionalism. I also have had packages that have gone missing during the time I was staying with my friend, and she is known to throw peoples packages away for the will of it. Just recently she threw away the flowers of my teamates Asia Donald because they were sitting on the front desk for two hours. This is absolutely insane to me and my parents are coming down here because I am not emotionally equipped anymore to deal with this woman who is acting like a tyrant and a dictator. It was completely wrong and something needs to be said and done. - Also, just yesterday, I was going about my day, and called out to my friend who wasn't even down the hall. He was just a few steps away and I called his name, she proceeded to scream all the way from down the hall at me, telling me that I couldn't yell in "HER" hallways. My friend saw the entire thing. I told Cece that I was extremely uncomfortable talking to her anymore after she'd talked to me like a child, sorry, "screamed" at me like I was a child. And I let her know that my parents would soon be here to deal with her since she can't show respect to me either because I'm young or whatever the case is, I won't be disrespected.

It's been an adventure living here at the Annex. Although there have been a few things that haven't gone right, it's the staff that has made this place a home. Cece, Peggy, and DJ have all been so helpful, making sure that my time here is fun, safe, and comfortable! Cece in particular has helped me in so many situations, and I appreciate her efforts greatly! I could not imagine living anywhere else in Terre Haute.
