Customer Reviews & Testimonials
Typically I don't get involved unless it happens to me, but 3 students in my office are having issues with this complex. I know parents look at these reviews. You can see by all the negative reviews here that Alight Stillwater has some management issues. Having worked in apartment and house leasing myself, some of the situations that the students are encountering is staggering. This place does inspections, which should be commended, but they document and charge right there for an issue. Okay, one of my students turned in photos at move in with this "issue" clearly shown and it almost matches the photo the complex took. They are charging for something that the tenant didn't do and turned in on their walk through. I wonder if it wasn't a student and not from this area if this would even be an issue? Setting a level of expectations with this one looks to be tough. Housing is at such a premium here in Stillwater, I can't see treating people this way is the best way to do business. I feel for these students here on campus and gave them info on how to combat landlords that don't take care of their property. Renters beware and good luck to the parents.
Do not sign your lease her unless you are prepared to fight for your life against final move-out charges. They tried to charge for damages that come with simple wear and tear of an apartment like rust build up in the sink (which had gotten worse since they didn't fix it before I moved in). They also tried to charge me a cleaning fee when I left the apartment cleaner than I found it. After disputing the charges, I was told I would hear back within two weeks. The two weeks went by, and I heard nothing. I did not hear anything about my final charges until 5 months later when I received a letter in the mail saying I still owed them my final fees and if I did not pay them immediately, the fees would be turned over to a collection agency. I immediately tried to contact them again, and I heard nothing for a week. Within that week, my credit had been hit. It took another email threatening to turn them in to the Better Business Bureau for them to finally respond to me. I was finally able to get the charges dropped after showing photos of the "damage" being there the day I moved in and a cleaning receipt from when we paid a cleaning company to clean our whole apartment. Management does not care about their tenants, and they have horrible communication. There is no maybe about it; they will try to take advantage of you, and you will have to do everything in your power to fight against them. I highly advise you to find somewhere else to live.
I had a horrible experience living at Alight Stillwater. Communication from management was absolutely terrible--they ignored maintenance requests for months. The move-in conditions were unacceptable and far from move-in ready. The apartment was filthy: the air filter hadn't been changed in over a year, the refrigerator had dog and human hair in it, and there was clear water damage throughout the unit. The floors creaked with every step, and I didn't have a working dishwasher for months. While the front desk students were kind and tried to help, management lacked tremendously. Despite our efforts to leave the apartment clean upon moving out, they still charged us an unjust cleaning fee. This was absurd considering the conditions we moved into. I provided documentation to dispute the charges, but they refused to respond or even speak to me. When I requested an itemized receipt (which we are entitled to), they ignored me entirely. This was by far the worst living experience I've ever had. I wouldn't recommend Alight Stillwater to anyone. Their lack of communication, neglect of basic maintenance, and refusal to resolve disputes are completely unprofessional.
Zero Stars if I Could. Let me be clear: Alight Stillwater is a scam, and this place is a rip-off. After I paid all the fees and got sick of their ridiculous charges, they still hit my credit by over 50 points. This company is a sad excuse for a business. Don't ignore this review. Alight Stillwater will try to bleed you dry of money once you move out. Their charges are completely unfounded, and they use scare tactics to pressure people into paying up. I disputed charges on July 31, 2024, with proof, and they never responded. Now, over 6 months later, they're still trying to charge me. In my case, they're attempting to charge me $110 for a "dirty toilet bowl" and another $198 for ceiling spots that were there before I moved in. On top of that, my friend, who lived there at the same time, had a roach infestation and received no help from Alight, except being charged to move out early. This place is a joke, and if you decide to live here despite the many horror stories, I urge you to protect yourself. Take photos on move-in day, keep all receipts, and be prepared to fight back when they try to scam you. Best of luck -- but honestly, just take my word for it and don't sign their lease in the first place.
Electricity is literally hundreds of dollars per person some months during completely normal use. When contacted the office did nothing to investigate the issue and just gave general energy saving tips. If you choose to live here be willing to factor that into your finances. Also they don't put down any salt on the parking lot or sidewalks when there's ice. It's almost impossible to leave your apartment when it's cold because you're trapped in a sea of ice. Just extremely lazy and irresponsible.
I lived here for a year and can say the staff are horrible with communication. Almost every issue I had with them was because they wouldn't communicate properly to me or their staff. I also suggest taking a picture of everything when you move in or they'll try to charge you for prior damages. Submit everything to the move in sheet. I moved in and some blinds were broken before we moved in. We got charged because we didn't mention it in the move in sheet. You'd think they actually keep a record of past damages. I'm getting charged for carpet damages, when the carpet wasn't in good shape upon move in. Obviously it's going to get worse if it started off with tear. My roommate was charge from a past tenant's pet damage and she doesn't have a dog. Make sure you have proper evidence of everything or they'll charge you. I'd advice to look somewhere else
Apartment flooded Friday morning, offered to transfer me to a different room next Monday. Was forced to live in a barely inhabitable room for 3 nights. (My apartment building is on a hill, by the way).
If I can give this place a zero, I absolutely will but Google only allow it me to give it a one. This place has been absolutely the worst. I was allowed early move in a year ago and ended up paying for EVERY one of my roommates electric bill for two straight months before it went down. It was about $278 a month and I was directed to the electric company, who was very rude and even hung up on me at one point. Before WiFi was upgraded, it goes out like no ones business and I almost couldn't complete my midterm. Their lawn mowing business is also terrible with their job as my brand new car took SEVERAL paint chips on the front bumper because I watched them drove their vehicle and dump grass and gravel all over my vehicle. Oh yeah, AC went out the last week I was here. Although they provide us with a portable unit, it was only for the living area and our rooms were like an oven for days. The move out process requires us to pay they $110 each worth of electric although normal electric only takes around 35. The last straw was when they charged $116.60 and $72.20 for CLEANING. My roommates and I cleaned out the place before we left but Alight decided that every one of us still need to pay around $200 worth of cleaning and one of my roommates has a bill of $450 for cleaning and damages. So please, if you're looking for a place to spend for you're college experience, this place is not it even though it's $400 bucks a month. It's not worth the headache you're going to go through.
