Customer Reviews & Testimonials
This is my favorite thing in Oak Ridge! I love the idea of the people of Oak Ridge and Japan coming together to build the bell, and the bell itself is beautiful and sounds so amazing. Don't be afraid to really swing the log and make it sound! A lovely, head-clearing sound.
If you're a history buff and like anything WWII, this is a must see. The Bell is beautiful! Also visit Oak Ridge K-25 History Center (Museum) and see some awesome history about the Manhattan Project, as well as see the Little Boy Atomic Bomb replica with in.
A peaceful park in the middle of the city Friendship Bell Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is located south of the Oak ridge turnpike and north of Badger Avenue. It is a lovely, peaceful destination that beautifully blends history, support, and serene natural surroundings. The park is open and has a small parking lot off Badger Avenue. There are some hills but a nice pathway to get around the park. The park's centerpiece, the Friendship Bell, holds profound significance and serves as a poignant symbol of unity and harmony. The history of the bell dates back to the 20th century when it was gifted to Oak Ridge by the people of Japan in 1996. This heartfelt gesture was a symbol of peace and reconciliation between the two nations, honoring the lasting friendship that emerged after World War II. The bell's striking design and its association with international relations make it a compelling attraction for visitors seeking to delve into history. It is free to visit and there are several signs around the park that tell details about the Friendship Bell's history, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of its significance. Overall, Friendship Bell Park is a very nice destination that combines historical importance, community support, and natural beauty. A visit to Friendship Bell Park is not only a memorable experience but also an opportunity to embrace the profound message it represents.
This is a really cool stop. Make sure you walk up the path and see the other memorial at the other end of the park.
Tamke-Allan Observatory and the ORION astronomical society host a monthly "International Friendship Stargaze" at the International Friendship Bell, on an evening of the first quarter moon. Astronomers with their telescopes are always present, and the public is invited to celebrate International Friendship.
well maintained park and bell. Please explain to your kids the significance and that it's NOT A TOY. I've seen some kid antics around this that are not funny.
Beautiful park located in the middle of the town! The bell has a lot of significance to the town! Worth a visit if you're exploring throughout Oak Ridge!
Friendship Bell symbolizes Friendship between the people of Japan and Oak Ridge. The nuclear material that destroyed two Japanese cities was made in Oak Ridge. Visitors are encouraged to ring the bell.
