Children's Theatre-in-the-Woods

20240907 Was hiking with my girls and the trail took us to this outdoor children theatre. It's a short walk from the parking lots, and it's wheelchair friendly. The trail from parking lot to the trail entrance is paved, and transition to fine gravel trail to the theatre. This theatre has a lot of seating. The back of the theatre is where the trail continues to a small pond.

Such a beautiful place that incorporates nature and the arts. The shows are about an hour long and usually best for kids 4 and up, but I have always seen plenty of little babies in attendance - I think it just depends on the kid. I think most shows are probably for 10 and under (I overheard an older kid saying he wouldn't be back lol), but again, that depends on the kid. At the beginning of each show, there's a get the wiggles out session, and at the end, there's usually some sort of audience participation movement with the cast. Someone below commented that strollers were not allowed, but I saw strollers parked right outside of the theater seating area, so I'm not sure what that person meant. There's some (easy) hiking involved in getting to the children's theater because, you know, it's in the woods. My kids are too old for strollers at this point, but even if they weren't, I doubt I'd bring one? From the parking lot, the path is paved and downhill. Once you cross the bridge over the river, the path becomes gravel. At any rate, I think a stroller can make it and is allowed up to a certain point, but like most theaters, you can't take the stroller inside the seating area as logically there wouldn't be any room. Food and drink are allowed, but you have to eat/drink in an area just off to the side of the seats. I think just water is allowed in the seating area. What makes attending a performance so fun is all the activities before and after the show. We took photos with the cast, took a nature walk with a ranger, completed another junior ranger book and received a badge, hiked along the trails, and enjoyed all the outdoor toys that were available to play with for free. Make sure to check out the kiosk! Lots of stuff available there, including souvenirs!

It's lovely. Even in hot summer it still attracts lots of families and offers variety of shows and performances.

Beautiful location and a nice small theater that's great for kids of all ages. Affordable tickets and a great experience for the whole family.

Fun outdoor venue for children's music. Intimate enough to make kids feel close to the musicians, but still a good size venue. A little bit of a walk from the parking lot, but that helps make it feel like it's really a concert out in the woods

Four-stars just because it was under renovation while I was there. I will revisit and possibly give it five stars after the renovation is done. I came here just to hike in the woods but this looks like a nice little setup in a nice area.

We had a wonderful time seeing and outstanding performance of Rainbow Fish. Cast was excellent and the staff at Wolf Trap never disappoints.

I was a member of the Meki's Tamure Polynesian Entertainment. The crowd was amazing and loved our Entertainment. The park is huge and if you are planning to go there for an event you'll have to arrive 30 minutes in advance. The walk is a little far
