Customer Reviews & Testimonials
Frustrated with West Bend, Strong Tower, and Adjuster Robert I filed a claim for damage to a French door. Despite it being obvious the glass couldn't be replaced separately, the adjuster refused to acknowledge this and submitted a $35 settlement, claiming the glass alone could be fixed. Licensed contractors confirmed the entire door assembly needed replacement. The proper repair cost just over $3,000 -- which I paid out of pocket after canceling all policies. This process felt like cost-cutting at the expense of integrity. If this claim was more than they could handle, how would they handle a serious one. Very disappointed with all parties involved, buyer beware.
They have threatened increasing or canceling my policy every year without expensive repairs to my home. We replaced the roof, furnace, air conditioning. We have painted. Now it is replace steps and take out trees or we are no longer insured by them. There is nothing wrong with my home and to keep this company I will need to get a second job just to keep up with the repair demands. Edit- There is no way to reply to this when West Bend replied in the first place. They want to look like they are the good guys and concerned for our policy/concerns and offer help. I will email the company, but they required the roof to be done last year and did a walk through for the property sending that our insurance would increase significantly the next year without the roof being replaced with that being the report. We replaced the roof. Then we got notified 2 months post replacing with other demands from the same survey that again state we will be canceled at the end of 2025 with these other repairs being done. Same report West Bend. Why was this not a demand when the roof was done. The initial paperwork listed the roof. We were renewed then crickets. Until 2 months later?
Make that negative stars. If you want to be forced to pay insurance, but not have a company you pay help you when you file a claim then this is the company for you. They want you and your family to have health complications by forcing you to live in a hazardous inhabitable environment since they're too lazy and negligent to do their job. They don't care about you. They're happy when you're sick and I imagine will be even happier if their negligence results in death. They're unprofessional. WORST insurance company ever. Seems I'm not the only one to feel this way based on all the reviews. They have made a nightmare situation a million times worse and continue to do so. I think they get enjoyment out of making your life a living hell. If you're looking for new insurance go with anyone but them. Edit: continues to lie and allow us to die.
Two years ago I had a great auto claim experience with West Bend. Fast forward to this year when an F1 Tornado hit my neighborhood. This is a confirmed tornado by the National Weather Service and our house was one hit. Despite the tornado taking out a tree in our yard, damaging a section of our metal fence, tossing heavy metal patio furniture around our deck, snapping a half inch galvanized Metal pole in two, West Bend and the Claim Adjuster say that the damaged roof somehow wasn't caused by any of the tornado wind. In fact, they didn't see any damage at all. The kicker is they agree the damage to all the metal items was caused by wind but not the asphalt shingles. Apparently asphalt shingles must be some miracle product that is stronger than metal. During the inspection the onsite adjustor could see the lifted shingles from the ground before even going up on the roof. After the inspection he even commented on the amount of damage and at one point told the roofing contractor to stop counting the damaged shingles. Then I get a call today from Nick to tell me that both he and the inspector aren't seeing any wind damage to the roof. So somehow this magical tornado did all this other damage to my property but somehow didn't affect the roof at all. He's saying that the shingles that are lifted that you can visibly see from the ground was caused by the roofing contractor while taking pictures of the damage during the inspection. Mind you, they were visible before they even went up on the roof. My 80 year old neighbor can even see them and is the one that alerted me to the damage to even file the claim. I'd really like to know what changed from the day the adjustor onsite told me that there was quite a bit of visible damage to now there is no damage at all. I used to recommend this company to others based on past experience but now I can't in good faith tell anyone to use them based on this experience.
West Bend increased my auto rate over 100% despite no claims. I canceled the day prior to renewal and they still debited my account almost $500 the day after canceling. They then sent a check for $181 and said our account was settled. A shortfall of over $300. We have called twice and they refuse to refund the remainder of the overpayment. Avoid this crooked company at all costs.
We have been long time customers of West Bend. We have had 2 claims in the last 5 years and were notified they are not renewing our policy because of these claims. Isn't the purpose of home and auto insurance the ability to file a claim? 100% would not recommend this company to any potential new customers.
Unfortunately the company it's been good to us for few years till i file 2 claims on a 2023 truck one for hit a deer and the other I make a dent on my truck. Like I said I haven't had any issues with the company till I started dealing with the insurance adjuster BONNY RUELLE , for some reason she mix both claims and the shop didn't fix my truck So I contacted Bonny by call her (at least 5 times , by email (2times) and I even spoke to her supervisor and he told me that she will contact me and it's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard from her, every time that I call I make sure that some one relates my concerns and nothing. I have at least 5 vehicles on the same policy. So at this point I don't know what to do anymore. Unfortunately I'm about to start looking for another company that cares about my business.
Money grubbing con artists. All insurance is a scam but this place wrote the book on it. My car and homeowners insurance premiums went up $745 from last year, an increase of 20%, and have probably doubled in the past 3 years. Never made a claim or had any other issue. Called to see what was going on and after they realized they made a clerical error on the age of my wife, they want to increase my premiums even more. All I could do was laugh. Her excuse was that "they already saved me money because of the clerical error" and that they "weren't going to seek back pay for the error that they made" like she was doing me a favor. I had to explain to her that since I have made no claims all I have done is pay her salary and make sure other people get paid out when they make a claim, they haven't saved me a cent. I guess this sort of thing is happening all over Iowa, but these percentage increases just aren't adding up.
